Food for Thought on Pro Se

Especially during difficult economic times, or when the issues seem mutually agreed upon and ever so simple, individuals may be inclined to draft their own legal documents using online tools instead of hiring an attorney to help. Believe me, we understand this inclination and are guilty of taking the DIY approach in various aspects of our lives too. We’re thinking of a certain backsplash project last summer, or that haircut you tried to give your dog in the Spring during Shelter in Place orders. Did it get the job done? Maybe. Does it look very pretty? Probably not.

However, the fact of the matter is, your legal rights cannot grow back like the haircut, and you can’t just shove a plant in the corner where the tile is uneven. There are significant legal ramifications to issues involving your estate, divorce, custody, parenting time and child support rights. Failure to include various legal provisions, or to foresee commonly known legal issues could lead to serious headache down the road that could have otherwise been avoided.

Our attorney, Rebecca Randen, provides further “food for thought” when considering whether or not to engage an attorney for your legal matter in the Collaborative Law Institute’s Blog. Check it out by clicking HERE.
